A Day in the Life of a Coffee Bean (A Tragedy in Three Roasts)

A Day in the Life of a Coffee Bean (A Tragedy in Three Roasts)

Have you ever stopped to think about what your morning cup of coffee has been through? No? Well, buckle up — because this is the story of one brave little bean, told in three acts.

Act I: The Farm Life (Idyllic, Peaceful, Blissfully Unaware)

Our hero — let's call him Benny — starts life on a sun-drenched hillside somewhere spectacular. He's hanging out on a coffee cherry, soaking up the altitude, the mist, the whole vibe. Life is good. Birds are singing. Farmers are tending. Benny is basically on a permanent vacation.

He doesn't know what's coming.

"This is fine," says Benny, ripening slowly in the equatorial sun. "I could do this forever."

He cannot do this forever.

Act II: The Processing & Journey (Things Get Weird)

One day, Benny is picked. Then washed, dried, hulled, sorted, graded, bagged, shipped across an ocean, cupped by a very serious person who slurps loudly and writes things like "stone fruit finish" in a notebook.

Benny is confused but intrigued.

He arrives at the roastery. He meets other beans. They bond. They share stories of their home regions. A Yirgacheffe from Ethiopia. A Huila from Colombia. A Sumatra who doesn't say much but has incredible depth.

"We're going to be great," Benny says.

Then the drum starts spinning.

Act III: The Roast (A Transformation, Not a Tragedy — We Lied)

Here's the thing about roasting: it sounds dramatic, and it is. Temperatures climb past 400°F. There's a first crack — a moment of audible transformation where Benny essentially becomes his best self. Sugars caramelize. Acids mellow. Flavor compounds develop that didn't even exist before.

Benny doesn't die. Benny evolves.

He emerges as a beautifully roasted, aromatic, complex coffee bean — ready to be ground, brewed, and experienced by someone who really needs it at 7am on a Tuesday.

That someone is you.

The Moral of the Story

Every cup of coffee is the end of an epic journey — from a hillside farm to your favorite mug. At Brew Buddy Roast, we roast to order so that Benny (and all his friends) reach you at peak freshness, not sitting in a warehouse somewhere wondering where it all went wrong.

Drink intentionally. Appreciate the bean. And maybe, just maybe, say a little thank you before your first sip.

Benny would have wanted it that way.
